JAMEK MOSQUE – A quaint mosque sited at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers, the birthplace of Kuala Lumpur. Built to serve the needs of the early Malay community, it was styled after the Mogul mosques of North India with cupolas, minarets do me arches and colonnades. (Photo stop)

INDEPENDENCE SQUARE – At the stroke of midnight on 31st August 1957, the Union Jack was lowered for the last centre of town. The Dataran Merdeka, is a field fronting the Royal Selangor Club. (Photo stop)

SULTAN ABDUL SAMAD BUILDING – Kuala Lumpur’s most photographed building, designed by British architect A.C. Norman, was built between 1894 and 1897 and was formerly the Secretariat building for thye British administration. It is a beautiful blend of Victorian and Moorish architecture and is now the venue of the Supreme Court and the High Court. (Photo stop)

THEAN HOU TEMPLE – Sited on the hill outside the city centre, this magnificent temple serves as a centre of Buddhist culture and learning. Statues of the Goddess of Mercy are found inside its ornately decorated interior while its grounds contain statues of animals representing the signs of the Chinese zodiac. (Visit stop)

BATU CAVES – The limestone caves are a popular tourist attraction for the annual Thaipusam festival. To reach it one has to climb a steep flight of 272 steps, a feat performed by as many as 100,000 devotees during Thaipusam. (Visit stop)

MUSEUM ORANG ASLI – Situated at the 20km mark on Jalan Gombak after Batu Caves, this settlement nestles amidst secondary forest and features on Orang Asli Museum and Craft Shop. Visitors can get a glimpse of the life and culture of Selangor’s aboriginal people. (Visit stop) (Friday closed)
